The course consists of seven modules:
- Module 1: Asset Management Key Concepts (approx. 60 mins)
- Module 2: Integrating Asset Management with Organizational Goals, Plans and Processes (approx. 50 mins)
- Module 3: Assessing the State of Local Infrastructure (approx. 90 mins)Module 4: Service Delivery Planning (approx. 70 mins)
- Module 5: Lifecycle Management Strategies (approx. 60 mins)
- Module 6: Developing an Asset Management Financial Strategy (approx. 60 mins)
- Module 7: Continuous Improvement (approx. 30 mins)
Learning Objectives:
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the importance and benefits of having an asset management plan
- Describe the O. Reg 588/17 requirements for an asset management plan
- Describe the key components of an asset management plan
- Identify areas of risk and improvement in all aspects of asset management planning
- Describe actions that can be implemented for continuous improvement of asset management in their organization
Target Audience: Municipal staff responsible for asset management in Ontario. The course is geared towards those new to asset management.
Duration: Registrants will have up to 60 days of unlimited access to complete the course. Estimated time to complete all seven modules is approximately seven hours.
CPD Credits: MFOA Training Programs may be eligible for continuing professional development credits. Please check with your professional association to confirm the number of credits that qualify for your personal CPD record. We encourage all participants to track their hours independently for a more accurate reflection of time spent on course if submitting hours to a professional association. The estimated time to complete this course is seven hours. A copy of your order confirmation email can be used as documentation to support your CPD declaration.
Refund and cancellation policy for eLearning courses:
Prior to accessing the course: Full refund, less $50+HST administration fee, can be provided if cancellation is made by email prior to accessing the e-Learning course. Cancellations must be requested by emailing julie@mfoa.on.ca. Participants will have unlimited access to the course for up to 60 days. Participant substitutions/transfers are allowed prior to accessing the e-Learning course (no admin fee).
After accessing the course: 50% of the course fee, less $50+HST administration fee, can only be provided to participants who have completed less than 50% of the course. No refunds will be provided if 51% or more of the course has been completed.

Donna Chiarelli, Planet A Consulting
Donna Chiarelli is the owner and principal consultant of Planet A Consulting, bringing 25 years experience helping to build healthy, prosperous and resilient communities. Her work focuses on strengthening decision making of local governments and the people they work with, related to asset management, environmental sustainability and climate action.
Donna is currently a core team member of the Natural Assets Initiative (https://mnai.ca), working on multiple projects to support communities across Canada to integrate natural asset management and nature-based solutions into their infrastructure management and service delivery. She is also an associate of the Climate Risk Institute, where she co-delivers a course on asset management and climate resiliency. Other current or past clients include Green Analytics, the Ontario Greenbelt Foundation, the Atlantic Infrastructure Management Network, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and KPMG.
