Thank you to All Participants in MFOA's Photo Contest

We received a number of amazing entries, making it difficult to narrow it down to 12 photos. Your entries brought a unique perspective of a municipality, proving that our members love their municipality! 

But the fun isn't over yet! MFOA members now have the opportunity to vote on their favourites of the 12 finalists. Judging should be based on originality, overall impact, and subject matter relevance to nature, cityscapes, and/or creative display of municipal originality.

How to Vote

Below are the 12 photo finalists for the photo competition. Voting is a simple three-step process:
  1. Click on a photo to enlarge it. 
  2. If you wish to vote on the photo, click on the heart underneath it. If you change your mind, simply click on the heart again.
  3.  You can exit this mode by clicking outside of the photo in any darkened area. Please restrict your votes to 3 photos.

Voting ends July 3. MFOA staff will tally the votes an announce the winners soon after. Good luck to all contestants!

Rules and Regulations


Eligibility:
Open to MFOA members only

Entry Period: Photo contest begins on January 16, 2017 and ends at 11:59pm EST on June 1, 2017. Entries submitted before or after the entry period will not be eligible.

Voting Period: MFOA staff will review submissions from June 2-8 and choose 12 finalist photos. On June 9, voting will be open on MFOA's website. Voters can vote for one photo from each category specified. Voting closes on June 30, 2017 at 11:59pm EST.

Judging: Photos will be judged on originality, overall impact and subject matter relevance to nature, cityscape, and/or creative display of municipal originality. Judging will first be conducted by a panel of MFOA staff to narrow the selection to 12 photos, with MFOA members voting for the winning three photos afterwards using the same judging criteria. MFOA staff will evaluate all valid entries. Winners will be notified in July 2017 via contact information provided to MFOA.

What to Enter: For our photo contest, we’d like to know why you love your municipality. Is it the natural Canadian landscapes around it? Is it a park in your area? Is it the growing cityscape in your downtown core? Capture those vibrant moments and express what your home means to you!

  • To ensure eligibility for the contest, photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization may be disqualified.
  • Entries can be in color or black and white prints. Photographs must be original content and contestants must declare this fact at point of submission.
  • Entries must be submitted electronically in .JPEG or .jpg form.
  • Entries should include the following information in its caption:
    • Municipality, location, detailed caption of subject matter
  • If your photograph is a winner of the contest, you grant MFOA a royalty-free, nonexclusive right, in perpetuity, to:
    • Use the photograph on the Internet and in Social Media
    • Use the photograph in MFOA’s internal and external communications materials including but not limited to website, web publications, presentation and membership services, annual report
    • Edit the photograph to adjust resolution size and scope for printing and framing
    • Use, in connection with the contest, your name and municipality in promotions
    • Retain a digital copy of your photograph that will be archived internally

Ineligible Entries: The following submissions are ineligible:

  • Photographs of or in a private residence
  • Selfies
  • Photos that infringe upon another person’s rights, including but not limited to copyright
  • Photos that contain inappropriate content

Your Rights:

  • You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit. Winners will be notified before the MFOA Annual Conference.
  • To the best of its ability, MFOA will credit all photographs with the caption “Person’s Name” when the full name is available
  • If you submit a photograph to enter the contest, you grant MFOA a royalty-free, nonexclusive right during the contest to:
    • Display the photograph on the submission website
    • Allow MFOA to use the photo for promotional purpose such as eNewsletter content, on social media platforms (Twitter, LinkedIn), etc.
