Asset Management Communities of Practice Guide
Asset management planning can bring great benefits to municipalities across Ontario, including
enhanced long-term financial planning and decision making as well as meeting potential eligibility
requirements for senior government funding. However, many municipalities are challenged with
limited resources, training, and experience in this field of practice. Networks for knowledge sharing among practitioners, or communities of
practice, have the potential to provide valuable opportunities for the ongoing sharing of best
practices in the field of asset management.
This Guide was prepared by MFOA, with the support of the Province of Ontario, to provide
practical recommendations for the development of asset management communities of practice. The Guide is
intended to assist municipal staff in developing and maintaining their own communities of
practice to best meet their needs.
This project was funded in part by the Government of Ontario.
