2018 Photo Contest

Whether you grow it, cook it, eat it, or snap it, Ontario's food is a sight to be seen and we want you to show us! MFOA's 2018 Photo Contest, TasteON: Sharing the Love of Local, is celebrating the art of local Ontario food through your lens. Whether it is a cornfield, grapes from a vineyard, or a fresh apple pie from the local farmers market, show us what food in Ontario means to you. You can choose to submit photos from the categories: Food, Drink, or Other. 

To enter the contest:

  1.  Snap a photo or take an existing original photo. Choose that photo using our search function below. Please note that we require a photo that is minimum 1.5MB
  2.  After uploading your photo, select a category that is falls under (Food, Drink, Other)
  3. Enter your information in the fields. You must identify the municipality (submissions not from your own municipality are welcome but must be within Ontario), Location (i.e. Algonquin National Park), and a short caption (10 words or less)
  4. Read over our "Rules and Regulations" and click agree
  5. Now you can submit your photo. You can submit up to three photos for the contest, any other submissions will not be counted

Contest submissions close on June 29. MFOA staff will choose the top 12 photos and MFOA MEMBERS will vote for their favorite photos between July 9 - 31

The three winners will be announced and showcased at MFOA’s Annual Conference in September. Winners will have their photos framed and receive a free workshop or livestream experience with MFOA. 

Prizes
The 12 finalists will have their photo featured in MFOA's 2019 calendar. The top three winners will receive a framed copy of their photo, as well as these additional prizes:
  • First Prize: $319 credit towards MFOA training
  • Second Prize: $100 credit towards MFOA training
  • Third Prize: $50 credit towards MFOA training

Donations - Your Photo For Feeding Families
As a way to further support local communities, for every photo submitted to our 2018 photo contest, MFOA will donate $10 (to a maximum of $2000) to the Ontario Association of Food Banks

Rules and Regulations


Eligibility:
Open to MFOA members only

Entry Period: Photo contest begins on March 5 and ends at 11:59pm EST on June 29. Entries submitted before or after the entry period will not be eligible.

Voting Period: MFOA staff will review submissions from July 3-6 and choose 12 finalist photos. On July 9, voting will be open on MFOA's website. Voters can vote for one photo from each category specified. Voting closes on July 31 at 11:59pm EST.

Judging: Photos will be judged on originality, overall impact and subject matter relevance to locally grown or made food in relation to a municipality. Judging will first be conducted by a panel of MFOA staff to narrow the selection to 12 photos, with MFOA members voting for the winning three photos afterwards using the same judging criteria. MFOA staff will evaluate all valid entries. Winners will be notified in August 2018 via contact information provided to MFOA.

What to Enter: For our photo contest, we'd like you to showcase all that Ontario's culinary scene has to offer. Whether it is food, drink, or fresh fruits, we are looking for original photographs related to food from Ontario.

  • To ensure eligibility for the contest, photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization may be disqualified.
  • Entries can be in color or black and white prints. Photographs must be original content and contestants must declare this fact at point of submission.
  • Entries must be submitted electronically in .JPEG or .jpg form.
  • Entries should include the following information in its caption:
    • Municipality, location, short caption (10 words or less)
  • If your photograph is a winner of the contest, you grant MFOA a royalty-free, nonexclusive right, in perpetuity, to:
    • Use the photograph on the Internet and in Social Media
    • Use the photograph in MFOA’s internal and external communications materials including but not limited to website, web publications, presentation and membership services, annual report
    • Edit the photograph to adjust resolution size and scope for printing and framing
    • Use, in connection with the contest, your name and municipality in promotions
    • Retain a digital copy of your photograph that will be archived internally

Ineligible Entries: The following submissions are ineligible:

  • Photographs of or in a private residence
  • Photographs taken by anyone but the submitter
  • Plated food or "food selfies"
  • Photos that infringe upon another person’s rights, including but not limited to copyright
  • Photos that contain inappropriate content

Your Rights:

  • You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit. Winners will be notified before the MFOA Annual Conference.
  • To the best of its ability, MFOA will credit all photographs with the caption “Person’s Name” when the full name is available
  • If you submit a photograph to enter the contest, you grant MFOA a royalty-free, nonexclusive right during the contest to:
    • Display the photograph on the submission website
    • Allow MFOA to use the photo for promotional purpose such as eNewsletter content, on social media platforms (Twitter, LinkedIn), etc.

Prizes: The 12 finalists will have their photo featured in MFOA's 2019 calendar. The top three winners will receive a framed copy of their photo, as well as these additional prizes:
