Municipal Reporting Burden




In 2016, MFOA put out a call for assistance to members to gather details on the reporting requirements to the Province. Using a template created by MFOA, eight municipalities provided MFOA with information on their own experiences with provincial reporting. The municipal respondents were geographically diverse and varied in population size, allowing for fulsome findings.

Based on survey results, MFOA has published "A Report About Reporting", an analysis of the reporting burden. The study sample identified 270 unique reports in total. MFOA recommends that to resolve the reporting burden issue, there must be an enforced principles-based approach to reporting that could address issues of scalability, discretion and duplication.  Download "A Report About Reporting" below to learn more about the study and MFOA's recommendations moving forward.
